Learn About Our Scholarship Fund!
Will Forage for Food isn’t just a place to learn, it’s a community. And I want every member of our community to have access to classes. Regardless of their ability to pay. I also want to encourage young people to attend classes and to show respect to our community elders. So I have created a scholarship and work study program.
Unfortunately, some classes have limited space and we live in a society where I have to pay bills. So I can’t always give spots away for free. This scholarship fund is a way for community members who live comfortably to offer a helping hand to those who are struggling. So that everyone can learn, without creating an undo burden on my finances in the process.
Here’s how it works:
Community members donate to the fund, and then I use that money to cover the cost of scholarship and work study spots. The vast majority of the funds donated are used to cover scholarship and work study tickets for the Great Lakes Foragers Gathering.
For Plant Walks I am able to offer scholarships to anyone who can not pay.
For other short (no overnight) classes, there will be a single work study spot available per class to someone who can not afford the cost. The spot is available on a 1st come 1st served basis. The work will take place primarily just before and just after the class to help with set up and clean up.
For weekend camps (other than the Great Lakes Froagers Gathering), there will be one work study and one scholarship available for the weekend. Both spots are 1st come 1st served.
The scholarship will be available to ages 13-22 or over 70.
Work study is available to a person who can’t otherwise afford to attend. Duties will primarily include set-up/clean up before/after the camp, plus you will be responsible for dishes and trash over the weekend.
For the Great Lakes Foragers Gathering
Limited scholarships are available. You are eligible for a scholarship if you may struggle with work study or if you meet the age requirements. This includes anyone ages 13-22 or over 70. It also includes special cases where finances are problematic but working at the event may be challenging. This includes (but is not limited to) those, with disability/chronic illness who have limited spoons and single parents who are bringing their children with them.
We have numerous work study spots to fill, so anyone ages 18 and older can work study until spots are filled.
If you would like to donate to the scholarship fund, you can do so here. If you are in need of financial assistance to attend a class or event, please contact me at rhmifsud@gmail.com to work out the details.
