Foraging 101: The Ultimate Online Foraging Class

from $30.00

Foraging 101 is designed to help you learn to become a confident, independent forager. And all of the learning is done online and in your own backyard.

The course is designed with 7 Modules, originally intended to be completed over one growing season of April thru October, following a set schedule. The new, updated class design allows you to work at your own pace, on your own time frame. Each Module includes 1-1.5 hours of videos introducing you to important foraging skills as well as 12-15 “focus plant” segments to help you locate and identify seasonal edibles and medicinals. There are also 15-25 pages of reading material, worksheets, and self-quizzes in the Modules, and a Scavenger Hunt designed to help you learn the material and keep track of your progress. Nearly all of the online content is exclusive to this course and cannot be found anywhere else.

  • Module 1: Foraging Basics- safety, sustainability, and getting started. Also covers plants that can be found in April.

  • Module 2: Top 10s - Top 10 lists of the best wild greens, fruits, herbs, mushrooms, medicinal plants, and much more. Also includes plants that are harvested in May.

  • Module 3: How to Find What You Want- Ecology information that is specifically important to foraging and learning to read the land so you can find what you are looking for. Along with the early summer (June) plants.

  • Module 4: Intro to Plants- An introduction to botany and plant anatomy, plus plants to forage in July.

  • Module 5: Intro to Mushrooms - An introduction to mycology and mushroom anatomy, and the plants you can find in August.

  • Module 6: How to ID an Unknown- How to use field guides, keys, and apps to identify an unknown plant or mushroom (or any other living organism). And the plants you can find in September.

  • Module 7: Wild Food Cooking and Preservation- The best part! Learn what to do with all of the new foods you are finding. Includes October plants, as well as plants that can be found over the winter.

Althought the class is designed to be completed autonomously, that doesn’t mean you are on your own. Students of the class can email the instructor at any time with questions.

Note: This class uses a Google classroom. You will need a gmail email address in order to enroll. If you don’t have a gmail, you can get one (they are free) and then once you are in you can forget about it. You will not need to repeatedly enter your information. The registration will ask you for both your email and your gmail. The Email should be the address you would like to be contacted at. The Gmail is the address that you will be enrolled with.
