2026 GLFG Optional Intensives

$50.00

This year we are happy to offer 3 optional Friday morning Intesives. The trips are designed to give you hands on experience, and each trip has 2 instructors so that there is a very low student to instructor ratio. Trips will leave at 830 on Friday morning and return by 1230 so that you have time to grab a bite before the afternoon class sessions.

  • Fishing Intensive (led by George Hedgepeth and Dean Sherwood): Take a trip to a private lake where you will learn the essentials: how to fish (including how to choose your rod, bait, and location), how to clean the catch, and how cook it. If you have a fish cleaning knife, bring it.

  • Blueberry Bog Botany Intensive (lead by Clay Bowers and Sean Zera): Practice plant ID skills while you nibble wild blueberries in a beautiful local bog. There is usually standing water in the bog, so knee boots, waders, or water shoes are recommended.

  • Oak Barrens Restoration Ecology Intensive (lead by Jeremy Siegrist and Silas Bialecki): Take a trip with 2 of our Irish Hills locals to a beautifully restored Oak Barrens. Learn about restoration techniques and the unique plants and animals that live in these habitats. This trip will also visit an artesian spring, so bring your water bottles.

[Note]

  • Age restriction: 14 and above

  • Space is limited to 15 people for each class.

You do not have to buy this! If you stay on site Friday morning, we will be doing our usual food prep- processing nuts, group foraging, party in the kitchen, etc. Close this tab or window if you prefer not to purchase an Intensive.
